Hiroshi Senju was the president of Kyoto University of Art & Design from 2007 to 2013, presently a professor of Kyoto University of Art & Design, director of Koyodo Museum, member of masters committee of L’ÉCOLE of Van Cleef & Arpels, and advisor of The Tokugawa Museum.
Introduction
Painter. His representative work “Waterfall” has received Honorable Mention in the
painting category at the Venice Biennale in 1995. From 2007 to March 2013 served
as the president of Kyoto University of Art and Design. Currently a professor at Kyoto
University of Art and Design. Director of Koyodo Museum of Art, affiliated with Kyoto
University of Art and Design. Director of “Institute of Art,” a joint educational
institution of Kyoto University of Art and Design and Tohoku University of Art and
Design. Member of masters committee at L’ecole, School of Jewelry Arts by Van Cleef
& Arpels. In 2016, in recognition of the international reputation of “Waterfall” and
“Cliffs,” he was awarded the Foreign Minister’s Commendation FY2016. Won the
Isamu Noguchi Award in 2017. In 2018 “Senju Hiroshi: commemorating the
completion of a fusuma painting for Kongoubuji temple, Koyasan” was held at
Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art & Design, and has been toured nationwide since
then as a traveling exhibition. Hiroshi Senju & teamLab collaborative exhibition
“Waterness” at Dojima River Forum.
